[new][edit][reply] British English vs American English -- Trancid 14:50, 15 June 2012 (CEST)

Recently I've seen the first British to American English edit happen, which concerned me a bit. To prevent an editing war on this matter, which English should be used on this wiki for the English articles?

British English is the reference since that's what I use in Millénaire. It would be better if this respected whenever possible, especially within the same article. However if US speakers write articles in US English that shouldn't be an issue. Edits to change British English into US English are definitely out though.

:: What if lets say part the page is in US englsih and the other part is in British English, should we change it to one or the other or just leave it. To English speakers its very noticible.

If it's to harmonise a page I guess US to British changes are ok. If it causes any issues (such as the original contributor complaining) post a message here and we'll discuss it.

[new][edit][reply] Subpagename enabling. -- Trancid 14:06, 25 July 2012 (CEST)

I was messing around a bit to see if I could make the spoilers template default to the page's language. The method I planned on using was detecting the /<lang> code with the {{SUBPAGENAME}} template/constant.

It failed to work, so I did a bit of digging. It turned out that subpagenaming is disabled by default for various namespaces, including the main namespace. This is done by default in the settings of Mediawiki. This might also explain why a basic {{Languages}} does not work, and why the page title must be added as parameter each time.

I was wondering if the use of subpagenames could be enabled for various namespaces (main, norman, hindi, mayan and japanese).

The only downside I could find is that you will be unable to use the '/' in the page title itself, where the part after the slash isn't meant to be a subpagename but the title name.

Got most of my info from pages like http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Subpages and articles/talks linked to that.--Trancid 14:06, 25 July 2012 (CEST)
